Cornelis Springer, Dutch (1817 - 1891)

Cornelis Springer was born in Amsterdam, Holland in 1817. He died in Hilversum, Holland in 1891. He studied carpentry under his father Willem Springer, and painting under Dutch painters hendrik Gerrit ten Cate, Kasparus Karsen, and Jacobus van der Stok. In 1847, he was awarded a Gold Medal for a painting of a church interior. In 1865, he was awarded the Leopold Order of Belgium. He is best known for paintings town scenes in Holland.
